To Whom It May Concern at :

Staircase Property Management Tauranga

This letter is intended to publicly address and question the practices and values that Staircase Property Management upholds in its interactions with tenants. It is a call for reflection, improvement, and most importantly, a shift towards genuine care and respect for the individuals and families who reside in the properties you manage. This letter will be published on fairstay.nz, an open platform for sharing tenant experiences and advocating for fair treatment in housing.

Homes as Intimate Spaces

First and foremost, it is crucial to recognize that a home is not just a physical space. It is an intimate environment where people seek comfort, safety, and privacy. The role of a property manager transcends mere business transactions; it involves ensuring that this intimate space is respected and preserved. Unfortunately, interactions with Staircase Property Management have raised concerns about whether these fundamental principles are truly valued.

Review of Customer Service Values

Several tenants, myself included, have faced challenges that question the integrity of Staircase Property Management's customer service values. High repair charges, disputes over property conditions, and, most distressingly, interactions that lack empathy and understanding have been all too common. These practices do not reflect a company that values its tenants or their well-being.

The Risk to Vulnerable Tenants

The absence of stringent compliance requirements for property managers in our region opens the door to potential exploitation. Vulnerable tenants, who may already be facing financial, health, or personal hardships, are at risk of being taken advantage of. It is a matter of public concern that without proper oversight, practices that prioritize profit over people can flourish, leaving tenants feeling powerless and unsafe in their own homes.

A Call for Change

Therefore, I urge Staircase Property Management to take this opportunity to review and realign its practices with the core values of respect, integrity, and empathy. Consider this not just as criticism, but as an invitation to lead by example in the property management industry. Implementing transparent repair and charge policies, training staff in compassionate tenant engagement, and adopting a more tenant-centric approach would be significant steps in the right direction.

In Conclusion

The relationship between tenants and property managers should be built on mutual respect and understanding. Homes should be havens, not sources of stress and conflict. By adopting more humane and fair practices, Staircase Property Management has the opportunity to improve not only its reputation but, more importantly, the lives of the many tenants it serves.

I Hope Staircase stops the prison culture it has created.

Sincerely,

Genesis
